UPDATED 20150428 15:29:01

The Music Technology A level is a course that combines knowledge of popular music with the skills needed to produce, edit and record it. Each of these elements are important in their own right in the music industry and a working knowledge of them is crucial for careers in sound editing/ engineering, producing, composing and radio production, just to mention a few. You will learn how to sequence midi and record audio using professional software (Cubase & Reason), alongside learning skills in composition and arranging. The coursework element of the course includes an arrangement of a popular song in an alternative genre, a sequenced realisation of a popular song and a multi-track recording. You will also study the history of popular music and jazz from 1920. There are now many Music Technology degree courses available that cover a wide spectrum of areas in the music and media business. You need to be a keen and competent musician, work well with computers and technical equipment and be able to read music to a good standard to succeed on this course.
