Studying Literature will develop your reading but also your writing style, and help you to work independently and creatively - skills highly valued by employers and welcomed as an entry qualification to University courses such as English, Journalism, Media, Communication Studies, or Law. On achieving the AS level, students can (providing they meet certain conditions) convert the AS into a full A level by successfully completing a second year. Students accepted for study at A2 must read the two coursework texts over summer. The A2 year consists of a total of six texts and pre-released critical material for study. Module 1 - (2 hour May exam) - This element of study is focused on THE GOTHIC- Macbeth (Shakespeare)- Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (prose)- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (prose). Module 2 - (coursework) - Comparative essay on two texts - 1500 word essay. Application of a pre-released anthology to one literary text - 1200 words.
