Do you have an interest in how mass media affects most areas of society and contributes to our understanding of the world? Then this could be the course for you. A Level Media Studies is a self contained, integrated course providing a solid and rigorous introduction to the key aspects of media study. All students will have an opportunity to undertake practical media work as part of their programme. The second year of the course further investigates media research and production, as well as examining theoretical perspectives to understanding how the mass media operates. You will develop your understanding of media texts through close analysis. The course will involve much discussion and some group work. There will be a significant amount of practical work, which will include the use of IT packages, video production and digital technologies. Media Studies is a recognised qualification providing access to college and university study. It complements subjects such as English, Film Studies, Law, Psychology and Sociology. It is especially useful for careers in Media and Publishing.
