Who is the course for? You'll enjoy this challenging course if you like solving problems in a logical manner, applying mathematical theories to real life situations and constructing rigorous mathematical arguments. You'll develop your ability to reason logically, to construct mathematical proofs and to use mathematics as an effective means of communication. You'll cover three units in a year. This includes two units in Pure Mathematics, the other one being chosen from either Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Maths. What can it lead to? A2 Mathematics is well regarded as an indication of potential by both employers and universities. It is useful for entry to any higher education course and leads naturally to careers in accountancy, actuarial science, banking, economics and civil and mechanical engineering. What will I study? You will cover three units in the year. These will be Core Mathematics 3 and 4 and one of the Applied modules, which will be either Statistics 2, Mechanics 2 or Decision 1.The syllabus content for each of the modules can be found on the Edexcel website (www.edexcel.org.uk)
