A Level Spanish

UPDATED 20151021 09:19:03

In this course you will learn about the mechanics of Spanish like the vocabulary and how the grammar works and also how people live and use the language on a daily basis. By taking this course, you will be able to communicate confidently in Spanish whether you are in Spain for a holiday or on a Business trip to one of the many Spanish speaking countries in Central and South America. In the first year AS you will study four topics. These are Youth culture and concerns, Lifestyle health and fitness, The world around us travel, tourism, environmental issues, and the Spanish speaking world. These build on what is covered at GCSE and include a wide range of interesting and engaging issues. The common thread amongst these is discovering how people speak at a personal level, and what their individual views are on these everyday topics. In the second year you will discuss some further topics Customs, traditions, beliefs and religions, National and international events past, present and future, Literature and the arts. You will read and research about a Spanish language text, play, film or topic area that links to the culture of a country or community that speaks Spanish. In the first year your assessment is in two parts. There is a 2 and a half hour exam which includes listening, reading and writing. This accounts for 70per cent of your marks for the year. Then there is a 10 minute speaking and response test. This accounts for 30per cent of your marks for the year. The second year is very similar, with a 2 and a half hour listening, reading and writing exam. The speaking test lasts slightly longer than in the first year. This course will help you build on your language skills, and give you a strong basis for further study. By widening your understanding of other cultures and your ability to communicate with people from all over the world it will greatly enhance your employment prospects.
