<paragraph>This course will cater for beginners and experienced sculptors.</paragraph> <subhead>POTTERY</subhead> <paragraph>The course aims to instruct students in the use of ceramic materials, to make and decorate pots and objects that are functional and imaginative.</paragraph> <paragraph>During the course students will learn about:</paragraph> <bulletlist> <item>The states of clay</item> <item>Different types of clay</item> <item>Methods – pinching, slab-building, coiling, slip casting and throwing</item> <item>Decorating – mark making, incising, sprigging, inlaying, scraffito and piercing</item> <item>Glazing – types and methods</item> <item>Firing</item> <item>Aspects of design and development</item> </bulletlist> <subhead>SCULPTURE</subhead> <paragraph>The course aims to give students the opportunity to make 3 dimensional forms/sculptures to develop creative skills and a critical awareness of form.</paragraph> <paragraph>Activities may include</paragraph> <bulletlist> <item>Construction of armatures</item> <item>Modelling techniques</item> <item>Measuring and scaling methods</item> <item>Mould making</item> <item>Casting processes</item> <item>Firing and finishing processes</item> </bulletlist>
