This course is for young people considering a career in public services, or for mature learners who wish to follow a shorter programme of study that is related to public service work. Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services Typical units could include Leadership, Expedition Skills, Citizenship, The Uniformed Services, Physical Preparation and Human Behaviour. Also varying speakers and trips to service establishments, adventure training, mock entry assessment days and sponsored challenges. Extended Diploma in Public Services Typical units could include The Uniformed Services, Leadership, Physical Preparation, Expedition Skills, Human Behaviour, Citizenship, Diversity in the Public Services, International Perspectives, Data Interpretation, Understanding the Public Sector, Law & the Legal System, Health and Fitness, Nautical Skills, Signals and Communication, Teamwork in the Public Services, Criminology, Dealing with Accidents, Discipline in the Public Services. Also, varying speakers and trips to service establishments, adventure training, mock entry assessment days and sponsored challenges. Physical Training Is designed to help students increase their levels of fitness in order to ensure they have the ability to successfully participate in a Uniformed Services fitness test. This will include running, circuit training and fitness training in a weights room. There will also be many opportunities to participate in team activities. Other Opportunities (depending on availability) adventure training takes place in Wales and the south of France. Students are encouraged to attend. Visiting Service speakers/visits to Service establishments. Inter-group competitions. Visits to Service establishments may include local fire, police, ambulance stations, police firearms, Wymondham Police HQ, Colchester Garrison (Army), Wayland Prison, RAF Marham, RAF Honington, Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, HMS Bristol in Portsmouth and HMS Belfast.
