The Bridge to Independence courses are programmes of further education for students with severe learning difficulties and/or disabilities. The courses are designed for young adults who have the potential to progress and the enthusiasm to continue learning in a safe and supported setting. The aim of the Moving On to Independence course is to help students reach their potential through learning. The nationally recognised qualification gained is structured to allow learners to develop the practical skills and knowledge designed to prepare students for adult life, further training, work and semi-independent living. The curriculum allows for experience in TITAN, cooking, budgeting, household tasks, shopping for daily living, health, safety and hygiene.

Initially students are assessed on an individual basis by their tutors. Progress is measured through subject specific targets and through the verification of completed units. Subject specific targets are agreed with the student according to their own individual needs. These targets are regularly reviewed and updated via the online PDP system.
