History: Ptolemaic Egypt

Using ancient sources, this course introduces the Ptolemaic kings, their achievements and failures. We examine the benefits and drawbacks of urban and rural life as well as the court and government. The importance of Alexandria and the achievements of its scholars and engineers are discussed.
