Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Competence ? IMIAL Level 2 Diploma

The Light Vehicle Apprentice Framework is aimed at vehicles under 3.5 tonnes and covers many skills including removing and replacing of faulty parts to complex diagnosis of vehicle faults using the latest technology, tools and equipment. An Apprenticeship is a vocational, work-based programme that demonstrates competence and knowledge. With a combination of on-the-job training and assessments, and training through an approved body, Apprenticeships demonstrate the individual’s competence to do a job to a national standard. In addition to the core Apprenticeship framework requirements, there are separate requirements which include, Maths, English, ICT, Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS). The start of a work-based Apprenticeship career that can lead to progression onto Level 3 qualification and into employment as a Light Vehicle Technician. Learning will be by a placement in a local garage and day release at the Training Centre. Practical and theory aspects of servicing, maintenance and repair of cars. Motor vehicle construction and layout of major vehicle systems and components. Routine maintenance of vehicles. Inspection and basic identification of faults. Use of measuring instruments required in vehicle maintenance and fault finding. Removal and refitting of vehicle components and units. Health and safety awareness in motor vehicle repair workshop. Working with groups and as an individual. Responsibility for personal actions taken. This qualification is based on cars and light vans. It requires many skills that include fault finding, use of technical data and replaing faulty units.
