Travel and Tourism AS Travel and Tourism is your key to unlocking a World full of hidden wonders! From golden sandy beaches to the relatively undiscovered depths of the Arctic, Travel and Tourism is an AS-Level for those with a love of the World around them. An AS in Travel and Tourism allows students the opportunity to develop their understanding of different countries, cities and tourist resorts around the World. You will learn about one of the fastest growing and dynamic industries on the planet, focusing especially on the impact of tourism on people and places. This brand new course at the Purbeck School will challenge you to really investigate destinations that you may have previously known little about. You will be given the opportunity to work in groups and carry out field learning to find out more about some of the very different tourist locations around the World. External Assessment Working towards the WJEC AS in Travel and Tourism, students are assessed through a 40% examination at the end of the course and a 60% coursework portfolio completed throughout the year, whereby students compare and contrast tourism in two cities. Students investigate the trends and patterns found in the changing tourism industry, whilst focusing on how tourism can both provide opportunities for local people and also impact negatively on some communities. This course is ideally suited to students who have an interest in a career that involves travelling and working with others, as the AS in Travel and Tourism develops communication skills, literacy and an awareness of different cultures. The course allows students the opportunity for field learning and to develop analytical skills that can be used in a wide variety of other subjects.
