Practical woodland management How will this course help me? You will learn how to safely fell small trees. Use them to make paths and steps through woodlands. Who is the course for? All abilities What can I expect to learn? Health and safety procedures Tool use and care Woodland survey to decide which trees to remove and where to create new access routes Small tree felling skills Building pathways and rustic steps Maintenance of paths and steps Publications and manuals for further learning How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. Your tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Please wear appropriate weatherproof clothing and steel toe capped or heavy duty work boots. Other personal protective equipment will be supplied as appropriate. Health and Safety will be covered in the introductory briefing. Will there be any other costs? You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning. All of the costs of this course are covered in the advertised course fee. What can I do next? You may wish to attend our woodland ecology and management theory or one of our coppice crafts courses, or progress on to the Lantra Level 2 Certificate in Land-based studies (Hedges and Woods).
