Painting and Drawing - Landscape, Still Life and Portrait

Explore each genre through painting and drawing. Term 1: The course is designed to teach fundamental skills in drawing and painting and to develop different approached to creating compositions of the three subjects. In a 12 week term the course will divide into three sections where each subject is explored in tone and colour for 4 weeks. Students will work from observation, drawings, photographs or collage to create images that will lead to a finished composition. Term 2 & Term 3: Will consolidate and continue the approach defined in Term 1 and students can choose to concentrate on just one or two subjects. New students can join in these terms. If a student wants to concentrate on one or two subjects in the first term, this is possible. The tutor will discuss these matters with students during the first session each term. Develop their drawing and painting skills including working in black and white, line and tone, colour mixing, glazing and impasto, proportion, scale and measurement. Develop the ability to explore their ideas from a wide range of sources and experiences. Which will give them confidence to work on their own projects. Demonstrate a knowledge of other artists work and be able to discuss with others their understanding of drawing and painting. Students will learn how to look critically at artwork.
