BTEC Ext Diploma Art and Design

UPDATED 20170103 14:04:59

This course gives students the opportunity to explore the career options presented by the creative industries whilst, at the same time, expanding their artistic skills and experience. This is achieved through experimentation with a wide range of art and design practices, techniques and processes. Students benefit by having more time to consider their creative and career options in year 1, leading to a specialism in year 2. Dedicated art practitioners deliver a stimulating range of assignments designed to challenge creative thinking, develop experimental and expressive drawing skills, promote individual growth as well as collaborative working practices and, ultimately, result in a professional portfolio of work in a chosen career specialism. Assignments cover topics such as Carnival Costume, Body Casting, Designing Products and taking them to Market and Graffiti Inspired Art Forms to name but a few. In addition to this, students will learn how to use computers as design and drawing tools, explore working in the community or art education and experiment with both 2D and 3D outcomes. Students benefit from a number of educational visits to explore local and regional artistic talent, meet clients who provide live briefs, work closely with schools and on community projects and enjoy working in a creatively charged studio with like-minded people. Final grades will give the following maximum UCAS point score of 420. Successful completion of the course gives the qualifications and skills required to progress onto a range of Degree or Foundation Degree courses such as Fashion, Textiles, Entertainment Design Crafts, Arts Management, Graphics, Costume, Illustration or Photography. Career Pathways include: Carnival/Theatre Artist, Theatre Manager, Prop/Set/Costume Designer, Applied Artist, Production Assistant, Teacher, Arts Development Officer, Arts Management, Education Officer, Community Artist, Graphic Designer, Film and Television Industries
