Personal Safety - Use of protective clothing appropriate to the process to be undertaken i.e. goggles, gloves, aprons etc - Isolation procedures for electrical systems - Remedial action in the event of burns - Routine inspection of torches and fittings Equipment - Safe assembly and operation of plasma arc equipment to include: - Selection and attachment of the relevant gas lines - Fitting and adjustment of pressure regulators - Fitting of burning torch and nozzles - Checking of system for safe use - Demonstration and explanation of the effects of: - Adjustment of Regulators - Adjustment of amps to suit given applications Preparation - Preparation of the material for cutting - Choice of an appropriate technique - Setting up the job safely and to minimise cutting difficulties & distortion - Selection of the appropriate pressures and nozzles to suit the application Practical - Demonstration and individual practice of the following cutting method - using mild steel plate of various thickness: - Setting up procedures - Freehand cutting - Recognition of cutting effects - Cutter guides - Square edge cutting - Hole piercing - Circle cutting Inspection and Assessment - Visual examination for recognition of cutting defects
