Learners study a range of units covering biology, chemistry, physics and forensic science. The units include investigating a crime scene, chemical analysis and detection, and a short practical project to develop investigative skills in the laboratory. The course is a vocationally based applied science qualification during which learners discover how science works and how scientific skills can be applied in the laboratory and to investigations in forensic science. It includes there mandatory core subjects that develop knowledge and skills in basic concepts of chemistry, biology and physics. These include how chemistry works in industry and the environment, energy transformations and how electrical energy is transferred for various applications, the evolution of the universe, living organisms, how humans impact on the environment and the factors that affect human health.You may progress to BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science or employment. All full time learners will undertake at least one additional qualification that will enhance their study skills and employability.
