This is an intensive basic to intermediate level training course in food preparation, cooking and service. You'll focus on practical food preparation, cooking and food service. You'll do most of your work in our well-equipped fine dining restaurant, which is open to the public. As well as getting practical training in our kitchens and restaurant, you'll learn the knowledge that's essential for a successful career in this competitive industry. You'll have opportunities to enter national competitions and attend key industry events. You'll normally come into college from Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening events. You will gain a VRQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking, VRQ Level 2 in Food and Beverage Service and Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English Food Safety Certificate. You could move on to VRQ Level 3 in Advanced Professional Cookery (Kitchen/Larder), VRQ Level 3 in Food and Beverage Service or the Advanced Apprenticeship in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership. Alternatively, you could start working in the food and drink service sector or become a junior chef.
