Your work will vary according to the type of job and can include residential, commercial, industrial and other construction or maintenance. A carpenter needs: to have: Manual dexterity and a good sense of balance Strength and stamina to work with heavy tools and materials An ability to work at heights A desire to do a precise and thorough job
