Advanced Apprenticeship Children and Young People's Workforce

This Apprenticeship is for people who work with children – from birth to 16-year-olds (and their families) – in settings or services whose main purpose is children’s care, learning and development. Workers in this area make sure children are looked after, kept active, happy and nourished. They also help children develop social and practical skills. The Advanced Level Apprenticeship is for those who work on their own initiative, planning and organising their own work and/or supervising others. The Apprenticeship is made of the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce. It combines compulsory and optional units to achieve individual on the-job training and support. It combines compulsory and optional units to achieve individual on the-job training and support. Candidates taking the Level 3 Diploma select an occupational pathway in either Early Learning and Childcare, Social Care or Learning Development and Support Services. Mandatory units include; Promoting Child and Young Person Development and Understanding how to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People. The Advanced Apprenticeship also consists of functional skills qualifications in Maths, English and Information Technology at Level 2. Excemption from these may be possible depending on previously held qualifications. After successful completion of this Apprenticeship there is good scope for progression in these areas of work. This Apprenticeship gives people a fulfilling opportunity to work with children and young people while also gaining an understanding into the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of their development. Equally, it ensures candidates put childcare theory into practice.
