Social care is about helping people with a particular need, such as the disabled, the elderly or people with learning disabilities. This type of care usually takes place in the home or in care homes or out in the community, and can include anything from helping people get dressed to transporting them to and from a residential home or taking them shopping. As an apprentice in Social Care, you could be a personal care assistant helping someone in their everyday life. The Advanced Apprenticeship consists of a City and Guilds Diploma in Health & Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF) at Level 3. This is a mix of compulsary and optional units depending on the work which you are undertaking. You will also complete a Certificate in Preparing to work in Adult Social Care (QCF) at Level 3. This runs alongside the diploma. The Advanced Apprenticeship also consists of functional skills qualifications in Maths, English and Information Technology at Level 2. Excemption from these may be possible depending on previously held qualifications.
