Although attending a counselling skills introduction course would be beneficial, this course is aimed at people aged 19+ who have little or no experience or training in counselling skills. The skills are adaptable for various work situations where counselling skills would be useful, such as support worker, teacher, nurse etc. as well as those considering a career in counselling. Amongst the topics you will learn are:-What is counselling?; Professional and ethical boundaries and barriers to counselling; Identify own values and beliefs; How to develop counselling skills into the future; and, How to practice effective listening and communication skills, including: 'active listening, appropriate questioning', and 'paraphrasing, summarising and non-verbal communication'. You may be entitled to a free course or financial help with childcare, equipment, or fees, please contact the centre for further information or to book on the course.
