Level 3 Access to HE Diploma Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Professions - Evening

The Access to HE Diploma is an alternative route into Higher Education for mature learners; it provides a good foundation for progression into Higher Education because it includes not only subject specific knowledge, but also study skills and professional development. It also includes Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy for those who do not have these essential qualifications. The programme was designed specifically for mature learners who have few formal qualification and who have had a break from education. The qualification is an Access to HE Diploma consisting of standardised, regional, core and optional units. This programme makes stringent requirements on learners in terms of time commitment and academic development and as such may take two years to complete. The exception is learners who have Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualifications already. Foundation Year (Level 2) This is the first stage of the Access to HE Diploma. Learners who successfully complete this year will be awarded the Progression Award Diploma allowing progression onto the second year. The structure of this first year is shown below:- * Psychology: Understanding Family Relationship, how Children Learn, Mental Health, Stress and Stress Management * Literacy: Reading Strategies, writing for Meaning, Creative Writing, Speaking and Listening * Professional Studies Units: Developing Personal Learning Skills; this will include note taking, essay writing and other key skills * Individual in Society Units: Understanding Aspects of Citizenship, Young People, Law and Order, Prejudice and Discrimination; Diversity in Society * Numeracy and I.T: Developing and Using Research Skills, e-mail, Word Processing Software, Using Calculations Diploma Year (Level 3) This is the second stage of the Access to HE Diploma. For example, some learners are dyslexic, but have nevertheless succeeded in fulfilling their ambition to study at a higher level. The programme is also designed to accommodate the needs of parents and people who have flexible work patterns.
