The technical certificate which you will study in College combines workshop-based training with the related theory. The practical work includes application of foundation coats, top coats, colour mixing and matching, application of specialist coating and paint fault rectification. The theory lessons are important in developing your knowledge and understanding of the technical areas of your work. To achieve the VCQ in the workplace, you will show higher level practical skills. Your on-site assessor will visit you to assess your progress. If you do not already have GSCE English, maths and IT at grade C or above you will have to take Functional Skills qualifications at Level 2 which are a requirement of all apprenticeship programmes
