The course will prepare you for work in a range of childcare settings, and is designed for young people who would like to pursue a career in childcare and education. You will spend three days in college focusing on the theoretical aspects of childcare and education and two days a week in a range of childcare settings to give you valuable, practical experience of working with young children. Typical topics covered include: introduction to working with children, development from conception to 16 years, supporting children's learning, keeping children safe, the role of the practitioner working with children, promoting a healthy environment for children, play and learning in children's education, caring for children, development of professional skills within children's education. At your interview you will need to show us that you: are committed to the course and that you aim to improve your literacy and numeracy skills as you study, have good school reports for attendance, punctuality and behaviour, where possible, have evidence of previous experience of working with or caring for children, for example, voluntary groups or work experience.
