Who is the course for? The Pre-Access to Science and Social Science involves studying the OCNLR Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Professions in Applied Science and Technology (QCF). This qualification has been designed to provide students with the underpinning skills and knowledge required to enable progress to further study in Applied Science and Technology, and ultimately to work in this or other related sectors. It is a full time course which lasts for 24 weeks. What can it lead to? The qualification provides students with the opportunity to consolidate and extend their learning in preparation for higher level vocational learning, apprenticeships or employment within the sector. Progression is available to the Access to Science or Social Science courses. Universities have made GCSE English and Maths a prerequisite for progression from an Access programme into higher education. Access to Humanities and Social Sciences: Students are required to have at least a GCSE or an overseas equivalent at grade C or better in Maths or English prior to commencing the Access to Humanities and Social Science course. Students who do not have both English and Maths at GCSE grade C or overseas equivalent will take one of these alongside their Access to Humanities and Social Science course. Access to Science: You will need both GCSE Maths and English qualification to start the Access to Science course. What will I study? You will study the following subjects: Psychology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics alongside either GCSE Maths or English. This will prepare students to study Access to Science or Humanities and Social Science. Units •Investigating Human Behaviour (Psychology) •Chemistry and Our Earth (Chemistry) •The Living Body (Biology) •Aspects of Energy (Physics)
