This is not a taught couse. It prepares teaching assistants for assessment for HLTA status. Tutors will outline to assistants the evidence that they are required to produce in a portfolio which will demonstrate that they meet each of the HLTA standards. Each of the 5 areas for HLTA status will require TAs to produce a range of evidence (activity plans and evaluations, minutes of staff meetings etc) together with a piece of reflective writing. TAs will be observed in practice in their teaching role and their Head Teachers will be interviewed. Each TA will be required to produce a Personal Development Plan and provide a Record of their CPD to date. The benefits of the HLTA status and the portfolio produced are that Head Teachers are able to show that their experienced support staff have undertaken training and shown commitment to developing their practice. Such factors are included within schools' strategic planning and may form part of an action plan following an Ofsted inspection.
