This course aims consolidate your Yoga practise with a variety of postures, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. By the end of the course you should be able to practise two different breathing exercises, one warm up routine and perform a variety of poses including: the butterfly pose, the bridge pose and the cow face pose. The class is structured into a 30 minute warm up session including breathing exercises, 30 minutes of main postures, and 15 minutes of relaxation at the end of the class. Main postures are taught in stages to accommodate different levels of fitness and ability while the benefits of each posture are also explained. Handouts on postures are available to encourage you to practise at home. The Yoga breathing exercises (Pranayama) quieten the mind, calm the emotions and, through increased oxygen intake, nourish all the cells of the body. Hatha Yoga works by releasing tension from the body and mind. The postures (Asanas) help stretch and tone muscles, joints and the spine, improving posture, which leads to a sense of self-confidence and improved physical health. Energy levels increase through the release of tension. Relaxation and meditation practise (Nidra) increase mental alertness and encourage a positive and peaceful frame of mind.
