You will study a total of five mandatory units throughout the year for the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy which are: ; Anatomy and physiology for sports massage ; Principles of health and fitness ; Understanding the principles of soft tissue dysfunction ; Professional practice in sports massage ; Sports massage treatments Also you will undertake the following: ; An Emergency First Aid at work qualification ; VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Swedish Massage ? This is the industry standard massage application method on which sport massage is built. Swedish massage utilises methods to relieve tensions and stresses and is a useful tool in the armoury of a sports massage therapist ; Macclesfield College Award in Taping and Strapping for Sport and Active Leisure ? This programme will teach you how to utilise taping and a strapping techniques on the injured and uninjured client to improve performance, assist with rehabilitation and allow tissue protection ; Macclesfield College Award in Applying Hot and Cold Techniques in Sport and Active Leisure ? In order to gain a variety of rehabilitation skills you will learn how to utilise the application of heat (thermotherapy) and cold (cryotherapy) on the injured and uninjured client to assist with body recovery Alongside your main programme of study you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skills in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade C or above. If you have achieved a grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will engage in extending these skills through a Directed Study Programme.
