This course is for learners thinking of a career in social work, nursing or residential care. It will enable learners to develop their knowledge and practical skills required in the health and social care sector and to gain entry to Higher Education. Contents include: Developing effective communication in health and social care Equality, diversity and rights Health, safety and security Development through the life stages Psychological perspectives for health and social care Personal and professional development Values and planning in social care Dealing with challenging behaviour Caring for children and young people Plus nine other units from the optional list as well as nationally recognised Functional Skills qualifications. This is a practical, work-related course. There will be talks organised by visiting speakers including registered nurses, social workers, care support workers and voluntary service workers. Work placements are also organised to provide learners with an opportunity to observe and gain experience in a variety of care environments such as day centres, nursing and residential centres, as well as working with people with a variety of care needs.
