AS level there are 2 units to study: People and Politics: An introduction to the subject; Democracy, and participation Pressure Groups, Political Parties Policies and Ideas, Elections and Political Participation. Governing the UK: Here we look at the central institutions of government; the Constitution, Parliament, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, Judges and Civil liberties. A2 level there are 2 units to study. These will concentrate more on political theory and will be an introduction to the political ideologies of Liberalism, Conservatism and Socialism. In addition we will examine rival traditions such as Nationalism, Anarchism, Feminism, Ecologism and Multi-Culturalism. Most of these will be related to the happenings and events of the UK, which connect with the first year of the course.

However, we do have internal patterns of assessment that include close monitoring of notes, set written work assignments on a regular basis, periodic tests and general monitoring of progress. We expect students to follow current affairs closely and to report to the class in groups on Politics in the News.
