In a supportive, encouraging environment, you will be taught simple, effective techniques for creating your own drawings, paintings and prints. Starting with pencil drawing, you will use tone to create a three dimensional effect and, week by week, will be guided through a series of art activities designed to make the subject both accessible and enjoyable. You will take inspiration from a range of primary and secondary resources. There will also be scope for you to explore your own areas of interest and begin to develop an individual approach to this rewarding subject., , By the end of the course you should be able to, , • Make drawings with a focus on either tone, line or texture , • Mix a range of colours using basic colour theory, • Use water based paint with some degree of confidence, • Prepare a printing block and print from it, • Recognise and respond to the work of artists covered in the course, , There is no set 'homework' but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home., There is no qualification for this course., , There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking. If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, a 2B pencil and a rubber to the first session. If you do not have these already, please do not buy anything specifically for the course until you have checked with the Canterbury Centre, on 03000 41 2222 about a week before the start, that the course will be going ahead.
