Sugarcraft - Improvers

This course is ideal progression for students who have completed our Sugarcraft - Beginners course. During this course you will learn how to ice a square cake and make a range of decoration including a starburst and an edible ribbon and bow. You will also learn how to make a model rabbit and wired roses., , At the end of the course you should be able to:, - ice a square cake, - make a starburst, - make an edible ribbon and bow, - make a model rabbit, - make wired roses, - use all tools and equipment safely, , , Please be aware that the items produced throughout this course are for educational purposes only, not for consumption. This course is ideal progression for anyone who has completed our previous Improver courses. You should be confident working with cakes and the different icing mediums. You should have some experience of working with royal icing and of making wired sugar flowers and be familiar with the associated tools and equipment. This course is not suitable for beginners.

Entry requirements

Please do not buy anything especially for the course before you have checked with the Canterbury Centre, on 03000 412222, about a week before the start, that the course is going ahead. Students will need to purchase their own icings and materials and provide their own cakes and equipment. Each week you will need to bring a notebook, pen, apron, camera/phone camera (if you have one) and anti-bacterial wipes. , , Please bring the following to the first lesson:, · 11 inch square cake drum board, 11 inch cardboard cake box, · 1kg sugarpaste (available in most supermarkets), · White flower and modelling paste (available in supermarkets. Tesco and Sainsbury have it at approx. £2.50 at the time of writing), Metallic floristry wire (any colour, available in sugarcraft shops), · Icing sugar in a shaker, · Pastry brush, · Long rolling pin , · PME straight edge smoother polisher (If you have one.
