Drawing and Painting - Improvers

The course will progress through a series of practical exercises and projects using a variety of subject/source material, aimed at promoting keen observation, improved drawing and paint handling skills with an exploratory approach to the expression of ideas and subject. The tutor seeks to equip students with the necessary skills, motivation and understanding to develop along the continually challenging search for a personal vision. , , By the end of the course you should be able to:, Work from a variety of primary and secondary subject matter., Make drawings as studies for paintings and to explore and establish compositions., Select and use the appropriate drawing and painting media, materials and equipment., Mix colours using basic colour theory., Use a range of water based painting techniques, e.g. washes, glazes, drybrush, wet in wet, impasto, etc., Recognise the styles and techniques of selected fine artists., Work to health and safety guidelines., Students who have completed a Beginners course or have some experience of working in Mixed Media or Watercolour from previous courses.It is important to note that Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please ask to speak with the Programme Manager before you enrol.

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. We have materials available to buy at competitive prices.If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
