Mother's Day Gifts. Here is a chance to make two beautiful flower designs as gifts for Mother's Day, using seasonal plant material. We will make a massed design of tulips or roses and placed within a ceramic container and a Carnation or RoseTopiary in a low container. , , By the end of the day you should be able to: , • Create two floral designs suitable to given as gifts, using fresh plant materials ., • Demonstrate an understanding of how to use the mechanics necessary to achieve the floral designs made particularly with Spring flowers., • Show understanding of the care and conditioning needs of the plant material used., • Demonstrate an ability to incorporate design elements within the arrangements., Those wishing to develop their flower arranging skills further using beautiful Spring flowers to create contempory designs for their home.

Entry requirements

Students need to provide their own plant material i.e. flowers and foliage, containers, mechanics, floral foam and accessories. Good scissors and secateurs, a notebook and pen, a table covering together with a camera/phone for recording your work. Floral foam and basic mechanics are available to purchase in class. , For both designs give consideration to a colour theme and you may like to add some ribbon and/or artificial decorations relating to the day., First design: Massed Design, Container: a round ceramic plant pot approximate measurements 15cms (6") diameter and 23cms (5")deep and a plastic plant pot saucer which rests safely in the top of the pot not essential but helpful., Flowers: 20 Tulips or Roses. , Foliage: Up to 5 longish strands of ivy to work through the flowers to lighten and separate the rounds forms of the flowers together with some medium sized leaves, could be ivy to place around the outside edge. , Second design - Floral Topiary , Container: a lowish container which may or may not be a visible part of the design. , Flowers: at least 15 Carnations or Roses and some smaller flowers such as additional roses or carnations, spray carnations or even some seasonal Spring flowers to compliment your main flower colours to place lower down in the arrangement., Foliage: Up to 10 stems depending on its size, ideally more than one variety, giving consideration if possible to shape and texture., Equipment required Students need to provide their own plant material i.e. flowers and foliage, containers, mechanics, floral foam and accessories.
