In year one you'll be encouraged to be innovative, exploring ideas that have strong historical and contextual foundations within graphic design. You'll examine the core values of the design process through a range of disciplines. Year one modules include: • ideas generation and exploration • visual studies • design process • digital applications • historical and contemporary studies • professional practice Year two will challenge you with design problems that have more limits attached, resulting in more realistic outcomes. You'll be more critically aware of your project work and the work of your fellow students, and you'll be expected to work more professionally to prepare for the working environment. Your project briefs will be linked with industry and developed through advanced studio practice where you'll begin to focus on your chosen pathway of graphic design. In year two you'll study these core modules: • professional practice • critical studies • ideas in context and these pathway modules: • advanced studio practice (graphic design) • final major project proposal (graphic design) • final major project resolution (graphic design) On this pathway, you will explore the core disciplines of visual communication through the development of corporate identity, information graphics, magazine design, book design and digital content. The course will culminate in the proposition and execution of your own brief through a final major project displayed at the end of year show. If you choose to study this course on a three-year part-time basis, tutors will arrange the appropriate sequence of delivery for you.
