Through the examination of the role of the teaching assistant in primary schools, you will be encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of the issues currently affecting children's education.  You'll study the following subjects:  · study skills and current initiatives · personal development and professional practice · understanding and supporting literacy and numeracy skills · anti-discriminatory practice · assessment for learning · development and wellbeing · understanding and supporting science in the curriculum · safeguarding children – child protection · meeting individual needs · managing behaviour · working with parents and carers to support children · educational concepts · managing your professional role The course is a great opportunity to develop a number of transferable skills such as discussion, presentation, essay and report-writing, problem-solving, planning, assessment and team working.   It's also a great way to meet fellow experienced classroom assistants or teaching assistants and share examples of best practice.  If you're looking to progress your career from teaching assistant to fully qualified teacher, this foundation degree is a great step on the ladder, allowing you to consolidate your experience so far and move towards a full BA (Hons) degree, and qualified teacher status.
