This course builds upon skills acquired at GCSE and fosters a deeper understanding of Spanish culture and language. In the first year students study social and technological change and highlights of Hispanic artistic culture, including a focus on Spanish regional identity and the cultural heritage of past civilisations. Students also explore the influence of the past on present-day Spanish-speaking communities. Students will also study a text or a film. In the second year students will learn about aspects of the diverse political landscape of the Hispanic speaking world. Students will have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice. Throughout their studies, they will learn the language in the context of Spanish-speaking countries and the issues and influences which have shaped them.
