WJEC Eduqas Advanced Level in Music

UPDATED 20170116 13:03:54

Students will study three units over two years in a similar nature to GCSE. At A level students will be able to choose to specialise in either performance or composition. Their choice will then count for 35% of their A level whilst the other will be 25%. Performance: Students will explore practice techniques and how to improve skill in dynamics, phrasing, pitch and rhythm, communication and musicality. If students choose to specialise in Music they will give a longer recital. Composition: Students will develop compositional techniques studied at GCSE. Students will develop their knowledge of harmony and instrumental techniques. If students choose to specialise in composition they will write three compositions in different areas of study, otherwise students will write one free composition and one composition to a brief that is set by the exam board. Listening and Analysis: Students will study a wide range of music from six areas of study: Western Classical Music, Rock and Pop music, Musical Theatre, Jazz, 20th Century music and 21st Century music. They will explore all of the elements of music and how they have been used within set pieces and wider listening. In the exam students will answer questions on Western Classical Music, choose questions from Rock, Musical Theatre and Jazz and also choose from 20th century or 21st century music.
