Students will explore six play scripts in depth, covering a range of theatrical genres, social contexts and narrative structures. They will approach these scripts from a variety of viewpoints; director, designer, performer and audience member. At least two theatre practitioners' work and theories are studied in detail, to influence interpretation and performance in practical units, further underpinning students' understanding of theatre's influential place in a wider historical framework. There are two performance units; one requires candidates to devise their own piece of original theatre from a stimulus, and the other requires students to apply high level technique to an extract from a published play. Dramatists can focus their practical application on a choice of performance, design or technical elements as they wish. The written examination allows students to demonstrate practical understanding of the demands of three plays through directorial interpretation and audience response. This course is an excellent choice for students wishing to pursue careers in the theatre, law, politics, journalism, creative arts, teaching, marketing, advertising, events management or arts administration.

Students study a key extract from three different play scripts and perform one of these to an external examiner, using the influence of a second theatre practitioner.
