This five-week course will give you an introduction into the techniques of cuttlefish-, Delft sand- and lost wax casting. You will be also introduced to model making using Fimo/Polymer Clay and carving-wax. • As a beginner you will aim to cast a charm/pendant in sand or cuttlefish and attach a suitable finding/bail. • As an improver you may want to carve a ring in wax and have it cast by a professional casting company. You will be set projects covering a range of casting and carving techniques. You will be taught through practical demonstrations, group and individual tuition and you will learn from hands on experience. You will actively take part in: • Preparing cuttlefish moulds • Preparing a sand (Delft clay) mould • Making models from polymer clay (Fimo) • Carving wax models • Melting silver and casting using a torch • Cleaning up cast items • Making simple attachments/findings • Hard-soldering attachment to cast piece
