As an Apprentice you really do get the best of both worlds; you will earn a salary and gain real experience in the workplace with your employer as well as working towards a nationally recognised NVQ and other qualifications. Apprenticeships are suitable for well-motivated people who are focussed and know which career path they want to follow. They offer high quality work-based training as an alternative to full time study. This programme is aimed at people who are employed, or are seeking employment. You will need to be 16 years of age or over. Apprenticeships are available at level 2 and level 3. This course will provide you with a knowledge base for a range of careers in the animal care industry or progression to university. You will develop your skills in the workplace and attend College for theory based subjects including health, safety and security, handling and restraint of animals and movement of animals. * Employment, for a minimum of 30 hours per week, with training in the workplace * You will work towards a Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) plus functional skills and employment rights and responsibilities All students aged 16-19 are required to study functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths and/or English if not already awarded a GCSE grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression to further or higher education, training or employment.
