The BTEC Extended Certificate in Public Services is a one year, full time, work related course aimed at students who wish to consider a career in one of Britain's Public Services. During the course you will have considerable contact with the range of public services through visits, exercises, short residential experiences and work observations. You will be expected to participate in a range of challenging out of College activities where the emphasis will be on team development. The course is suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in one of Britain's Uniformed Public Services: * Army * Royal Navy * Royal Marines * Royal Air Force * Police Force * Ambulance Service * Fire Brigade * Paramedics * Customs and Excise * Prison Service * HM Coastguard * Health Service You will follow a core syllabus covering: * Career Planning * Public Service Skills * Uniformed Public Service Fitness and the following specialist units: * Land Navigation * Adventurous Activities * Citizenship All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English and maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of maths and English Functional Skills. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment. All LMC students will receive tutorial support.
