This is a practical, work-related course. The Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, usually taken in the second year, is equivalent to one A level. The Level 3 BTEC Certificate will need to have been successfully completed prior to enrolling on to the Subsidiary Diploma. The course is highly suitable for students who are interested in careers such as social work, residential care management, housing, the health service, teaching and the probation service. The course combines both academic study and work experience as part of the programme. Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours' work training which will be carried out in a variety of care settings eg nurseries, care homes, hostels, hospices, hospitals or special needs centres. Students will study a variety of subjects over the two years including Sociological and Psychological Perspectives, Anatomy and Physiology, Communication Skills and Professional Development.
