Economics A-Level

UPDATED 20170110 14:10:48

Economics is an excellent subject that compliments science, social science and arts subjects. It is a well respected academic subject which is highly valued by both employers and universities. Economics involves the study of individuals, firms and the Government and the course is taught in two separate yet interlinked sections, micro economics and macro economics. Macro Economics is the study of Government and how the government influences and manipulates the level of economic activity. Micro economics is the study of individuals and firms and aims to establish models which can be used to describe and explain the behaviour patterns of individuals and firms. During the course you will have the opportunity to discuss relevant economics issues such as the following: ? Should we give aid to developing nations? ? How should the government distribute its tax revenue? ? Should individuals have to pay at source for hospital treatment? ? Who should pay for pollution? ? How does the interest rate affect the housing market? By the end of the course, students feel that they have a valuable insight into the workings of the economy and, in particular, the role of government. A variety of skills are developed during the course and tested in the examinations. Papers contain a mixture of multiple choice, data response, case studies and essay questions. The AS qualification should be successfully completed before progressing onto the A2 course.
