These courses are vital to many careers such as medicine, dentistry, science and veterinary science, but also open up great opportunities in diverse fields. The search for plentiful, healthy foods, new medicines, and sustainable agriculture always require the versatile, investigative and analytical skills of biologists, which are also valued in many non-scientific industry sectors. The core unit of Biology and Disease provides the foundation knowledge of cells, tissues and organs leading on to Biodiversity, Populations and Environment, and Control in Cells and organisms. The AS course must have been successfully completed before progression onto the A2 course. There will be written exams and some form of practical assessment.
