Food Technology is an exciting subject based on the production of food for a mass market. New product development covers numerous angles such as: product appeal, properties of ingredients, manufacturing processes, quality control, health and safety, food science, microbiology, nutrition, marketing, packaging and distribution. The food business is one of the most successful industries in the UK. Demand is approximately four times higher than the number of graduates leaving university, therefore, career prospects are excellent. There are a huge range of Food/Health degree courses to study at university. These include: Food Production Management; Product Development, Food Management; Environmental Health; Nutrition, Microbiology; Food Journalism; Health and Lifestyle; Food Science and Technology; Food Marketing and Business; Sport and Fitness; Hospitality and Tourism; Dietetics; Nursing etc. A2 comprises of one piece of coursework (60% of grade) plus one examination paper (short answer questions 40%). The AS course must first have been completed.
