Functional Skills qualifications are intended to support learners as they seek to improve their literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. Achieving these qualifications should increase candidates’ confidence and motivation, and the skills they gain will be valuable in the workplace or in any further learning. Being able to communicate effectively, use numbers successfully and make good use of technology is essential to almost every aspect of life, work and learning. The Functional Skills qualifications are a crucial passport to success in almost any area of work, life or further learning. Where appropriate, learners may progress in each functional skill through the levels, and in some cases may go on to achieve other qualifications in maths and English. Functional Skills qualifications in Mathematics enable learners to apply numeracy and practical mathematical skills in both their personal and professional lives. Functional Skills equips learners with the fundamental applied skills needed to succeed in all aspects of life, work and other learning. Functional Skills Mathematics qualifications are available at all five levels: Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2. The qualifications assess candidates’ ability to represent, analyse and interpret problems that involve the use of mathematics. Being able to use numbers confidently, particularly the ability to apply these skills to a variety of situations, is crucial no matter where or how learners plan to progress after achieving these qualifications.
