The Level 2 Functional Skills in English award is relevant to anyone needing to develop their English further. It supports progression towards further learning destinations and develop the skills needed for success in everyday life and the workplace. Learners will gain the fundamental applied skills in English with a particular focus on problem-solving and being able to apply these skills effectively in real situations. Achieving these qualifications should increase candidates’ confidence and motivation, and the skills they gain will be valuable in the workplace or in any further learning. Learning is usually done on a one to one basis with your assessor, using a variety of learning materials to make it fun and relevant to your interests or career objectives. Every candidate has their own individual learning plan, to suit their needs and give them the confidence to progress. The assessment consists of a series of task-based questions and oral assessment relating to the following areas: • Reading • Writing • Speaking, Listening and Communication Learners will meet with their assessor every couple of weeks and be given learning activities to complete between appointments. Assessment methods can include on-line or paper based assessments and observations by the assessor.
