Award for Broadband Technicians

This course is for those installing, commissioning and supporting the customer connections of fibre to the home and will allow candidates to learn, develop and practice the skills required to install and maintain customer premises equipment and the network infrastructure solutions commonly used. The course includes the overall GPON topology, network solutions using splitters, overview of access and node distribution solutions and the final customer drops. As well as covering essential areas of network topology, the course focuses on the final drop, both underground and overhead solutions, customer termination arrangements and the associated technologies used to deliver IPTV, voice and internet. Further insight is given to maintenance including fault finding and testing of various of various potential service. Your course will cover mandatory units which include: • Applied practices and principles for installing preparing and handling Fibre cables • Laser light and its safety requirements. • Health and safety requirements including manual Handling and working on ladders. • Use of buried, ducted and overhead drop cable installation practices • Preparing, cleaning splicing and testing of fibre connections ( OTDR and ILM ) • Mechanical terminations • Building entry requirements • Underground safety • Overhead safety • Installation and commissioning • Maintenance and service faults. The overall programme is designed to give you the knowledge and foundation to become a Broadband engineer that can confidently work on the GPON networks delivering broadband solutions for the future. To complete your qualification you will undertake training in one of our training centres facilities as well as on the job training and work placements (buddying). At the end of your training you will undergo assessments to ensure you have the skills to be a valuable asset to any business supporting and maintaining the Broadband infrastructure.
