"Year 1 Exploring Film Form This is a coursework module where students' creative and written skills are tested. You will produce an extended analysis of a film of your choice, focusing on how one or more of the following elements are used to create meaning in a sequence : camera, mise en scene, performance, editing and sound. You will also construct a creative project, using your own film idea and presenting it in one of the following forms : an Extended Step Outline, a Digital Storyboard or a Short Film or Film sequence. British & American Film This is an exam based module which is divided into 3 sections: Section A - you will carry out a study of the workings of the film industry, looking specifically at Hollywood and the British Film Industry. Section B - this is a close study of two films from the UK industry, evaluating what makes them 'typically' British. Section C - in this module you will compare two US films linked by their genre or theme. Year 2 Research and Creative Projects This is a coursework module which tests your research and creative skills. You will carry out a small scale research project, focusing on a star, director, a studio, a genre or a particular social or cultural issue. You will also develop your own film idea and present it as a screenplay or a short film / film sequence. Issues and Debates This is an exam based module which is divided into 3 sections: Section A - World Cinema : you will study a collection of films and/or film movements from around the world Section B - Spectatorship : you will look at the relationship between a film and the spectator (you may look at documentary or shocking cinema) Section C - Single Film Critical Study - you will analyse one film in detail, looking at the range of issues and debates they raise (e.g. Fight Club, The Battle of Algiers, Vertigo)"
